Just got back…

.. from a flying visit to Paris. I popped along for 24hours to the LONDON show ROOMS to say hi to the designers and the BFC team and to check all was going well.

I am completely in love with the designers’ collections. All three were truly outstanding. Seeing their work up close again – phwoar, mama! Lulu sure knows how to pick em. (Tash & I are gagging for a personal orders night as between us we basically want the lot.)

After set up I stomped around Paris for a bit. It was great being able to wander the streets and navigate myself to two iconic outposts of Parisienne style and taste: Colette and Laduree. I felt pretty smug not getting lost (for once). I accidentally bought some presents for friends & myself in Colette, including an extortionately priced bottle of Bernard Wilhelm for USLU airlines nail varnish, that’s a delightful murky green, named ‘Birmingham’.

If I were the kind of girl who liked to match I’d say it’d go perfectly with Claire’s hand illustrated devore top (must be mine).

On my travels round town I was stopped in my tracks by Maison E.Goyard where I couldn’t help but gawp at the monogrammed luggage. Dreams of chic Darjeeling Limited style matching suitcases and trunks ensued. Trouble.

Later, I teamed up with Claire and her team for a spot of dinner – superbly yum plats du jour of smoked sausage & lentils at Cafe de L’Industrie.

We all fell in love with this lady:

Buoyed by vin we stomped off in the direction of Saint Paul for a nightcap. Golly, the French love a bit of romance & drama don’t they!

See ya next time Bastille!

Camille Bidault Waddington, Stylist

Midnight in Paris

After my jaunt to Paris at the beginning of the month my heart warms all the more at the idea of this film. And I’m not sure if I’m even a Woody Allen fan..

Parisian Chic

I’m writing this from The Shirt Company’s exhibition stand at Pret a Porter Paris. Working here means I’ve had a lot of time to check out what’s new on the scene and to people watch to my heart’s content. I’ve only ever been to France once as a child and I don’t remember much about it so coming to Paris has been an illuminating experience for me. Although I’ve obviously always been aware of a certain French style – Parisian in particular – it’s quite a different thing seeing these women in real life.

For starters I’m amazed at how many women seem to dress in cliched ensembles like Breton stripes. But my overwhelming feeling is one of jealousy – of their figures and amazing wardrobes. I can’t quite put my finger on what makes their style so special but I think it also has a lot to do with their tanned physique and general attitude to clothing. It really is all about blazers, skinny jeans, cropped trousers and rolling up the cuffs on your shirts.

This trip I’ve been reading Donna’s book Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange and am about to buy French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano. As we travel back to London tomorrow (after a good shopping spree and spa trip in the morning) I have a feeling I’ll want to take a little bit of Parisian style back with me to inject into my wardrobe, and my outlook.
